Frequently asked questions

Application

Who can apply?

Anyone with a child aged between ten months and five years, with concerns over their physical development (rolling, sitting, crawling, walking). Applications can be made from families directly or from professionals, as long as you have consent.

I don’t live in Hertfordshire, can I still apply?

Yes. Whilst we may prioritise places for families within Hertfordshire, all are welcome to apply if you can access the groups in Watford and Hemel Hempstead.

We don’t have a diagnosis, can I still apply?

Yes. You do not need a diagnosis or a professional’s referral.

Attending groups

Can another family member bring my child to group?

Yes, it can be Mum, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Childminder, Carer or whoever you trust to bring them. Sometimes it’s helpful for a family member who looks after your child to attend a session as well as an opportunity to learn and pick up some tips.

Can I drop my child off and come back to collect them?

No; it’s important you stay with your child during the session to learn with them and provide care. There may be times when parents/carers go for a coffee break and their children will be supervised by staff but at all other times you are responsible for your child/ren. Playskill is not registered under Ofsted guidelines.

Can I bring siblings along?

Yes, siblings are welcome but do please let us know if you’re planning to bring them so we’re prepared for them too.

Do I have to commit to attending regularly?

If you are allocated a place, we would expect you to attend for the assessment and 7 weekly sessions. Dates are provided at assessment and we ask you commit to attending as many as possible; though we understand you may have appointments which cannot be rearranged.

Other activities

Is there anything for siblings?

Yes, Playskill loves to support the whole family. We have lots of social and respite events. Some for the whole family; and some specifically for siblings, carers, Mums etc.

Do you offer any training or resources for families and professionals?

Yes, we have a Family Training programme that operates mostly online for parents, family members and professional to learn more and build confidence.

Funding

Do I have to pay for Playskill groups?

Playskill is free to families; all we ask is a donation towards our refreshments if you are able.

Is Playskill Government funded?

No, Playskill received no government funding and relies solely on donations, grants and fundraising efforts.
